West Aussie art lovers flooded to Claremont to celebrate a new solo exhibition by Sydney-based artist Libby Moore.
The opening evening of In Reflective Intentions at Offmarket Gallery on May 20 saw guests marvel at Moore’s paintings in the contemporary house-gallery based in an architect-designed home in Claremont.
In Reflective Intentions, Libby Moore draws upon influences ranging from female surrealists such as to Australian artists including and photographer. Her paintings are of two types — wooden based with watercolour and oil on paper.
Moore incorporates lots of vessels, some functional and some just shapely, sculptural objects in her work which often represent the female form. But in most of the scenarios the ceramics and the glassware are telling a story about daily life, relationships and the human condition.
Moore was very excited to be showing her works in Claremont in such a unique space. The exhibition was warmly received, with over 50 collectors and guests responding strongly to Moore’s distinctive semi-surreal still lifes.
The artist ended her speech by quoting Western Australian abstract-expressionist Brian McKay, “art is something that moves you in a way you can’t explain.”
