Wang Suo Yuan

WANG Suo Yuan is a Paris-based visual artist. When he was young, he was enlightened by his father and getting started with photography. During the 1990s, he studied diamond setting (for Jewelry) and worked as an apprentice in the Shanghai Diamond Factory, and then briefly engaged in advertising design. In 2002, he arrived in France to pursue art studies and learned engraving at the School of Fine Arts of Versailles (E.B.A.V.) after he obtained a diploma in Decorative art design by self-study. After graduating in 2005 from E.B.A.V., he learned the “Hayter Method” and the burin in the Atelier Contrepoint (ex-Atelier 17 by Stanley William Hayter) to deepen his knowledge of printmaking, and to experiment with it. Since 2006, he has been conducting more personal research and practice on the variety of lines in various fields such as painting, drawing, printmaking, etc, trying to combine different concepts and materials of Eastern and Western cultures to find a language of a unique artistic expression language of his own. His works have been selected and exhibited in international biennials and art fairs in many countries around the world, and exhibited in France, China, Spain, Japan, the United States, South Korea, Belgium, Romania, Canada and Germany etc.

In 2022, luxury house Hermès commissioned him to create an exclusive large-format work titled Étoiles (Magnolia Yulan) for its flagship Taikoo Li Qiantan store in Shanghai, highlighting the artist’s ability to translate poetic imagery into contemporary luxury contexts.

His works are also included in significant public and private collections:
• The Bibliothèque nationale de France (Department of Prints and Photography),
• The China Printmaking Museum in Shenzhen,
• The Fidelity Investments Corporate Art Collection in the United States.

WANG’s approach—deliberate, tactile, and timeless—resonates with collectors and institutions alike, offering visual serenity, precision, and rarity. His pieces are not only art objects but meditative instruments that reward close looking and long contemplation.

艺术家 | 绘画、素描及版画

1978年出生于上海 | 现生活和工作于巴黎

 

王索源是一位常驻巴黎的视觉艺术家。年幼时受父亲启蒙开始接触摄影，九十年代期间学习钻石镶嵌专业( 珠宝类) 并以学徒身份工作于上海钻石厂，之后又短暂从事广告设计。在自学获得" 装潢艺术" 文凭后于2002 年赴法并就读于凡尔赛美术学院学习欧洲传统版画。2005 年毕业后同年夏天进入巴黎对位版画工作室/Atelier Contrepoint ( 原为史丹利•威廉•海特 Stanley William Hayter 的17 工作室/Atelier 17) 学习" 海特技法" 和推刀以继续加深他的版画知识并进行相关的实验与尝试。自2006 年起在绘画、素描、版画等不同领域对线条的变化进行更个人的研究与实践，并尝试结合东西方文化的不同观念、材料等以寻求找到一种属于其自己独有的艺术表达语言。其作品曾入选、参展于世界多国的国际双年展与艺术博览会，在法国、中国、西班牙、日本、美国、韩国、比利时、罗马尼亚、加拿大和德国等多国展出。

 

2022年，奢侈品牌爱马仕委托艺术家为其位于上海前滩太古里旗舰店创作的独家大幅作品《星辰(白玉兰)》，彰显了艺术家将诗意意象转化为当代奢华语境的能力。
